Private Lessons - Fiddle & Stepdance
Private lessons are offered in the Sea to Sky Corridor and beyond.
Online Zoom lessons are available for students anywhere in the world.
FIDDLE
Fun and inspiring, personalized fiddle / violin instruction is offered, guided by the student’s learning style and creative goals.
With a love for sharing the joy of music and helping learners of all ages, Jocelyn teaches by ear and notation, helps develop repertoire incorporating technique and stylistic devices, and encourages students to learn the music pieces they want to play.
STEPDANCE
Traditional music is made for dancing! With a background in Canadian stepdance (Cape Breton, Ottawa Valley, and French Canadian styles), Jocelyn offers private instruction to learners of all ages and ability levels.
Fiddle & Stepdance Workshops
Fiddle and stepdance workshops are fun! Jocelyn has taught workshops and led strings programs at numerous schools, venues, music camps, and festivals in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., France, and Malaysia.
These include the Squamish Academy of Music (CAN), Squamish Waldorf School (CAN), Open Door Music School (CAN), Bella Coola Music Camp (CAN), Georgia Straight Guitar Workshop (CAN), Dusty Strings (USA), Northern Streams Festival (UK), Niel Gow Festival (UK), and Festival La Semaine Acadienne (FRA).
Jocelyn hosts an annual Sea to Sky Fiddle & Cello Retreat in July in Squamish, BC - a fun weekend of workshops and community geared towards adult string players. The inaugural Sea to Sky Youth Strings Camp will also be held in July 2024.
Online Stepdance Course
Jocelyn offers a 6-week online Stepdance Course, for learners around the world! All ages are welcome. The course includes learn-at-your-own-pace instructional videos, a music playlist, and a private Zoom lesson for additional support and to review any questions.
Two courses are offered:
• Intro to Stepdance (no dance experience necessary)
• Next Steps (continuing steps and routines)
School Performances
Jocelyn and her band offer interactive, fun and lively school assembly performances! These provide an introduction to the folk music instruments of the band, and celebrate the traditional music and dance styles of Canada.
Performances are usually 45 minutes, and can be customized for elementary, middle school, or high school audiences.
Available in English, French, or bilingual.
